I Went To Camp - Thankful Thursday

Yes, I went off to camp. Several weeks ago in fact, and I've been wanting to tell you about it for some time! Can you believe it?! Me, up at 7,000 ft above sea level, in the woods, sleeping in a cabin, on a bunkbed, in a sleeping bag...my kids were so proud! My idea of roughing it is a hotel room that doesn't come with its own hair dryer! Oh sure, I used to go camping in the summer as a kid but let's face it, I'm FAR from being a kid these days. So by now you've figured out this weekend home-away-from-home must have been something pretty special for me to go. And I'm thankful to be able to say it was. Camp Blogway far exceeded my expectations! That's right I went to camp for food-bloggers. And the timing couldn't have been more perfect. You see, I had planned to launch "Dishin' In The Kitchen" in early May, but then I found out about Patti Londre's Camp Blogaway, and boy am I ever glad I did! I learned a lot. So much so that I delayed the launch date to the end of May, and it was worth the wait. Sure I learned a lot about how to be a better food-blogger, but what I walked away with was so much more important to me....I left having made some food-blogging friends.

First let me say something about our "fearless leader" Patti Londre. Patti is a long time food pro, and the gal who created Camp Blogaway for food- and recipe-bloggers. Let me tell you she runs a tight ship. All of the details were covered from extra pairs of earplugs in the bathroom in case you had bunkmates who snore, to a packed educational and fun agenda and yummy camp meals. Yes, YUMMY, healthy camp meals, the kind that make you want to go back for seconds. We had sponsors to meet (I'll tell you more about them in weeks to come), PR people to chat it up with, and educational segments that increased our photography and blogging skills. Patti had boundless energy, was supportive, friendly, and kept us all on task. She knew what she wanted us food-bloggers to get out of this experience, and she made sure we did. Thank you Patti for Camp Blogaway. And if that weren't enough Patti already has another special food-blogging Day Camp set up and ready to go, on September 25th, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA. If you can make it I highly recommend attending. I speak from experience when I tell you it will be worth your time. Hope to see you there!

Every so often in life you are blessed to meet some really neat people; people who are supportive, sharing, caring, and down right fun; people whom you are thankful to have met. Here are just a few of the people I met at Camp Blogaway and some of the fun I had, too:

OMG, you are soooooo sweet for this incredible, indepth and (*blushing*) high praises for our first Camp Blogaway. THANK YOU. Look forward to even MORE at upcoming camps!!!!

Debra (Smith Bites) it's all a part of the plan to get you and The Professor to move to CA. LOL!
But seriously, do make plans to attend next year, or sooner. You won't regret it.

Great post!!!! Maybe it's not too late for me to do a Camp Blogaway post of my own. I've also been so incredibly busy that I haven't sat down to do a recap.

Can't wait until we get together next!

P.S. Next time, when I think "it's Sunday, I don't need to wear makeup or comb my hair," I ought to think twice... because "I'm at a Blogging Camp, where people have CAMERAS... and are taking photos... everywhere." So thanks for getting a picture of me without my hair combed or my makeup on. Thanks... a lot. ;-)

Meeting you was one of my personal highlights from Camp Blogaway! Hugs to you my friend!

Cynthia, it was so nice to see you again! It was good to see you, too. Hope we bump into each other again sooner than later. Who knows, maybe we'll be bunkmates at Camp Blogaway again?!
