Healthy New Year ~ There Are Changes Afoot!
Jan 5, 2011 at 18:16 There are changes afoot. Some big. Some little.
Changes & Challenges. The changes will no doubt present challenges. They go hand in hand.
And yet they are exactly what so many of us impose on ourselves as we walk through the doors of a brand new year.
So what changes are afoot? 2011 is a big year for me. It's the year I take on the "Big 5-OH!". There's just no hiding from that. It's coming at me like a runaway train racing down the track...and I'm not ready. I'll admit that to you. But it's hardly like me to sit in a corner (for more than a day) and not face any challenge head on. It's like I told my children when they were growing up and facing their life challenges, "just put one foot in front of the other, and soon you'll be walking out the door." Now I can hardly be a hypocrite after all these years, can I? Nope. Changes are afoot, indeed. The biggest ones are all about my health. It's time. Well, it's actually long overdue. Better late than never though.
Yes, I'm jumping on the January bandwagon - the weight-loss bandwagon. Though I'm pleased to say I'm not making losing weight just about the numbers. I'm not jumping on a scale publicly because truthfully, this year isn't going to be about just numbers. It's NOT all about the numbers. Instead, it's going to be about getting healthy *really healthy* which is why I'm not going down the path of sharing numbers with you here. Nor am I joining some "one-size-fits-all" plan. Nope. Been there, done that. This time it's all about the small changes. The changes I can take on one step at a time, slowly replacing old, bad habits with new, healthy ones. And that's what I'll be sharing with you.
I haven't said much in the past couple of weeks, or been here to share any new recipes with you because I'm in the midst of getting organized. And frankly the initial changes to my daily routine are down right boring. It's quite the yawn fest to tell you how much more water per day I'm taking in. Shortly I'll be sharing with you the healthy food choices I'm making, the healthy recipes I'm trying and, sometimes, the recipes I'm creating myself. Now we can both get excited about that.
Not to worry though. Dishin' In The Kitchen isn't going ALL "health-nut" on ya. I've still got "Mr Meat & Potatoes" (AKA Hubby) to feed, and a few picky children who still swing by home every so often for a family meal. Wonder what healthy choices I can sneak in without them noticing? This should be fun. Oh, and I'll still be keeping up with my interviews, too. There are a lot of great folks out there I still want you to meet.
Hang in there with me. I'm going to need some cheering-on through the months.
So what changes and challenges are you facing in 2011? Any as big as the number 50?
Healthy New Year, everyone!

Here's to a healthy 2011 for all of us! Brava Mac! xoxo
Happy almost 50th!! Trust me, you will survive. Been there, done that last year. I'm still here. :) I also am right with you on the healthy eating plan. After having my surgery and being on my butt for 2 months, I was also faced with a scary experience on the scales! Good luck with the diet moderation. I started Monday and am feeling great! I will look forward to hearing how it goes! Happy New Year!
Try the big 6-0...And we are both lucky to be celebrating them!
Paula, YES! Here's to a healthy year for all of us. ox
Gwen, Happy Birthday to you! Congratulations.
Yes, I'll survive. That's the plan and being healthy is all about surviving...I've got Peanut in my life now and really want to be around for a very long time. Cheers to us both for getting our healthy on ;-)
Liz, Happy 60 to you! I couldn't agree more...we're lucky to be celebrating significant birthdays. Here's to getting healthy and celebrating more birthdays!
Mac, you go girl!!
uhm yes my dear Mac, i am facing another big birthday myself this year; egads, how did that happen??? (i've got you beat too so you're not the oldest!) but then i take a deep breath and realize that i don't feel the number i will be this year - i still feel like i'm in my 30s but thank you Lord, those years are gone and i have a teeny bit more wisdom . . . notice i said 'teeny bit'! good eating habits were tossed to the wind this past holiday season so we too, are in the midst of getting back to what we know is best for both me and The Professor. it's not about the number on the scale and i too, will not bore you with the details of THAT number either. but yes, being around for grandchildren and to be able to hike a sand pit with the fabulous nieces and nephew are on the top of my priority list. so i too, am moving forward . . . ONWARD GIRL - I'M BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY!!!
Here's to healthy eating! Happy New Year btw...
Mac! Mac! Mac!
Great post! I look forward to traversing this year WITH YOU! We are in the same boat, only I have a coupla years on ya.
We will ROCK IT!
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday. Yes I know I am making the announcement early, but I figure if we say it enough it will help you ease into the thing! GREG
Hi Mac! So happy to hear you upbeat and positive. 2011 should be a good year for us, too. No "milestone" birthdays; just happy we've made it another year. :) The only big change is the "kichen remodel" we're hoping to start this Spring. Cant. Wait. To. Begin.
And, looking forward to seeing the big changes!
Happy New Year!
